Keith Sweets’ career started when he joined the Harlem band Jamilah in 1975. In the band he sharpened his singing skills by performing in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.

The founders of the band are bassist Larry Naums, drummer Walter Bradley and guitarist Michelle Samuels.

Almost ten years later, in 1984, Keith was alone. He started singing in nightclubs all over New York and was able to record for Stadium Records, an independent label.

Keith recorded the single and their third release, My Mind Is Made Up. Despite the fact that he only sang physically on one record, he is still considered co-producer and co-author of the first release of You Are The One For Me.

This song was also GQ’s last recording. Keith’s uncle, Keith Saboo Cryer, was one of the original members of the band.

In 1987 Vincent Davis discovered Keith Sweet and offered him a contract with Vintertainment Records, which started in 1983. This label was known for its treatment of early hip-hop and released Pee Wee’s Dance by Joeski Love in 1985.

Elektra Records was a distributor of vintage records from 1985 to 1990, when the company ceased to exist. At that time, at the end of 1987, Keith released his first studio album, Make It Last Forever. Three million copies of this album have been sold.

In 1997 Keith formed a band called Old Cheekbones. He helped them make their first album. Their biggest single, Am I Dreaming, was on Xscape.

Keith formed the R&B band LSG with Johnny Gill and Gerald Levert. That same year they made their debut as Levert.Sweat.Gill.

The success of this album was My Body. The album went double platinum and reached fourth place on the American Billboard 200.

Keith has been releasing solo albums since 1998, and his sixth album Still in the Game was placed 6th on the Billboard 200 and 2nd in R&B/Hip Hop.

Although he had a few promising singles, including Come and Get With Me with Snoop Dogg and I’m Not Ready, his ratings started to drop in 2000.

Keith continues to release new music and has had a nationally syndicated radio show called The Keith Sweat Hotel since 2008.
